Characteristics of randomized controlled trials designed for elderly: a systematic review

Only 7% of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are specifically designed for elderly individuals. This highlights a critical gap in research needed to develop effective treatment guidelines for the growing older adult population.

- A low proportion of existing RCTs are specifically designed for elderly populations.
- There is an urgent need for more research tailored to older adults to inform treatment guidelines.
- Addressing this research gap is crucial as the elderly increasingly represent the majority in medical practice.
