Desmopressin treatment improves platelet function under flow in patients with postoperative bleeding

Desmopressin treatment in cardiothoracic surgery patients increases high molecular weight von Willebrand factor (VWF) multimers. This enhances platelet activation and thrombus formation under flow conditions, despite no major changes in overall coagulation.
