Background:

Sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) is an uncommon complication following surgical procedures.
Cardiopulmonary bypass surgery is the most frequently cited cause of SSNHL.
Non-otologic, non-cardiac surgeries are exceedingly rare settings for SSNHL.

Observation:

This report details two cases of SSNHL occurring after non-otologic, non-cardiac surgeries.
These cases represent an exceptionally rare presentation of postoperative hearing loss.

Findings:

The occurrence of SSNHL following non-otologic, non-cardiac surgery is a documented, albeit rare, phenomenon.
The etiology of SSNHL in these specific surgical contexts requires further investigation.

Implications:

Surgeons performing non-otologic procedures should be aware of the potential for SSNHL.
Early recognition and management may be crucial to mitigate permanent hearing loss.
This highlights the need for comprehensive patient counseling regarding potential surgical risks.
