Intraoperative BiPAP in OSA Patients

This case report demonstrates the successful use of bi-level positive airway pressure (BiPAP) during surgery for a patient with severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Intraoperative BiPAP facilitated safe sedation for a total knee replacement, preventing airway collapse.

- Intraoperative BiPAP allowed for adequate sedation with reduced doses of sedatives, avoiding desaturation or airway events.
Implications:
- Intraoperative BiPAP may be a valuable tool for safely sedating patients with severe OSA undergoing regional anesthesia.
- Further research is needed to confirm the safety and efficacy of this approach in OSA patients.
