Close Relationships and Culture

Culture shapes how people approach attraction, choose partners, and build long-term relationships. While some preferences in mate selection appear consistent across cultures, such as men valuing physical attractiveness and women emphasizing financial resources, cultural contexts influence how these preferences are expressed and prioritized. Marriage extends beyond romantic ideals in many societies and is deeply embedded in social, economic, and religious frameworks. The Role of Culture in Mate...

Unlike passionate love, which is driven by intense emotions and physical attraction but often declines over time, companionate love remains stable and can even strengthen with shared experiences and commitment. Psychological and biological mechanisms underpin this enduring form of love, influencing relationship longevity and satisfaction.Stability and...

Relationship Formation

What do you think is the single most influential factor in determining with whom you become friends and whom you form romantic relationships? You might be surprised to learn that the answer is simple: the people with whom you have the most contact. This most important factor is proximity. You are more likely to be friends with people you have regular contact with. For example, there are decades of research that shows that you are more likely to become friends with people who live in your dorm,...

Interpersonal relationships progress through stages, beginning with awareness and moving toward mutuality, where emotional connections deepen. While many relationships remain at moderate levels of mutuality, deeper connections form through self-disclosure, trust, and interdependence.Self-DisclosureSelf-disclosure involves revealing personal information, starting with surface-level details and gradually progressing to more intimate content. As trust grows, individuals feel more comfortable...

Targeted Cancer Therapies

9.2K
The targeted cancer therapies, also known as “molecular targeted therapies,” take advantage of the molecular and genetic differences between the cancer cells and the normal cells. It needs a thorough understanding of the cancer cells to develop drugs that can target specific molecular aspects that drive the growth, progression, and spread of cancer cells without affecting the growth and survival of other normal cells in the body.
There are several types of targeted therapies against...

Area of Science:

  • Clinical Trial Methodology
  • Medical Journal Publishing Standards
  • Evidence-Based Medicine

Background:

  • The Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT) Statement aims to improve the quality of reporting for randomized controlled trials (RCTs).
  • While widely adopted internationally, its adoption and impact within Chinese medical journals remained unclear.
  • This study investigated the extent of CONSORT adoption and its effect on RCT reporting quality in China.

Observation:

  • A systematic search identified 1221 Chinese medical journals, with only seven explicitly requiring CONSORT adherence in their author instructions.
  • None of these seven journals were among the top 30 journals based on the Chinese Science Citation Index (CSCI) 2011.
  • Articles published in CONSORT-adopting journals demonstrated higher average scores on both the revised CONSORT Checklist and the Jadad scale compared to the control group.

Findings:

  • A very low adoption rate of the CONSORT Statement was observed among Chinese medical journals.
  • Despite low adoption, Chinese journals that implemented CONSORT guidelines showed significantly better reporting quality for randomized controlled trials.
  • The average CONSORT Checklist score was 29.47 for adopting journals versus 25.57 for the control group.

Implications:

  • The findings highlight a critical need for increased adoption and implementation of the CONSORT Statement in Chinese medical journals to enhance the quality of published research.
  • Promoting CONSORT adherence can lead to more transparent and reliable reporting of clinical trials, ultimately benefiting evidence-based practice.
  • Further initiatives are recommended to encourage Chinese journals to integrate CONSORT guidelines into their editorial policies.
