Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate attitudes towards sexuality and its practice among university students in Lebanon.

  • A cross-sectional study involving 2700 university students across 17 Lebanese universities.
  • Utilized a self-administered questionnaire assessing socio-demographics, risk-taking, risky behaviors, and sexuality-related factors.

  • 15% of participants reported sexual activity, with 20% being regularly sexually active; significant gender disparities exist (35.3% of males vs. 9.6% of females regularly active).
  • Only 36% of sexually active students regularly used condoms.
  • Liberal attitudes towards sex, male gender, and substance use were linked to sexual activity; condom use was associated with perceived risks of risky behaviors and health concerns, but negatively with female gender and discomfort with condoms.

Conclusions:

  • A notable proportion of Lebanese university students are sexually active, yet condom usage remains low.
  • Attitudes towards sexuality are complex, influenced by gender, risk perception, and substance use.
  • Targeted interventions, particularly for males, are essential to improve sexual health outcomes and promote safer practices.
