[Myocarditis simulating acute myocardial infarction. A case report].

Summary

A six-month-old infant experienced acute myocardial infarction and congestive heart failure. Post-mortem examination revealed acute myocarditis as the cause of death.

Background:

Congestive heart failure and acute myocardial infarction are rare in infants.
Myocarditis can present with cardiac dysfunction in young children.

Observation:

A six-month-old infant presented with symptoms of congestive heart failure and electrocardiographic changes suggestive of acute myocardial infarction.
Echocardiography revealed normal coronary artery origins but findings consistent with cardiomyopathy.
Despite initial response to treatment, the infant's condition rapidly deteriorated, leading to shock and death.

Findings:

Post-mortem examination showed patent coronary arteries.
Microscopic analysis confirmed acute myocarditis as the underlying pathology.

Early diagnosis and targeted treatment for myocarditis are crucial in pediatric cardiac emergencies.
