Transforming growth factor β (TGFβ) and cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) overexpression increase COMP deposition in cartilage. This process leads to smaller collagen fibril diameters, impacting matrix mechanical function and offering potential for cartilage regeneration strategies.
