Summary

This study introduces a new technique for skin expansion that aims to reduce scarring while maintaining tissue availability for reconstruction. The Alagoz method uses the defect area and surrounding healthy tissue as the donor site, avoiding the need for distant donor areas. Expanders were placed directly under the defect and extended slightly into the healthy tissue. The tissue was not mobilized over long distances, which helped preserve flap gain and minimize scarring. The resulting scars were either linear or crescentic in shape. The researchers found that using local tissue and simpler flap designs led to better cosmetic outcomes. The method appears to be effective in avoiding extended scarring while providing sufficient tissue for reconstruction. The authors suggest that this technique may be a useful alternative to traditional methods, but further studies are needed to confirm its long-term effectiveness.
