Abstract:
The comparative analysis of the morphological shape of the occlusal surfaces in the stomatognathic system is only correct if those curves are compared which belong to one and the same movement of the mandibula. Starting with this requirement the method of analysis of the sagittal-vertical-cuts is explained. The thus obtained protrusive occlusal contours prove to have identical shapes. They can mathematically be described by just one constant. The geometry of the protrusive, occlusal surfaces can therefore be understood as congruent system of always identical sagittal curvatures.
