Physical Properties of Amines01:26

Physical Properties of Amines

4.5K
Amines with low molecular weight are usually gaseous at room temperature, while those with high molecular weight are liquid or solids in nature. Usually, low molecular weight amines have a rotten fish-like smell. Diamines typically have a pungent smell. For instance, cadaverine and putrescine, depicted in Figure 1, are two molecules responsible for decaying tissue.

Area of Science:

  • Natural Product Chemistry
  • Phytochemistry
  • Organic Chemistry

Background:

  • Dendrobium moniliforme is a traditional medicinal plant with a rich history of use.
  • The chemical constituents of D. moniliforme are diverse and possess various biological activities.
  • Further investigation is needed to fully characterize its phytochemical profile.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To isolate and identify chemical constituents from the whole plants of Dendrobium moniliforme.
  • To report new compounds and known compounds from this species.
  • To contribute to the understanding of the phytochemical diversity of the Dendrobium genus.

Main Methods:

  • Phytochemical investigation involving extraction and isolation techniques.
  • Spectroscopic methods (e.g., NMR, MS) for structure elucidation.
  • Comparison with existing literature for compound identification.

Main Results:

  • A new 9,10-dihydrophenanthrene derivative, 1,5-dihydroxy-3,4,7-trimethoxy-9,10-dihydrophenanthrene, was isolated and identified.
  • Twenty-four known compounds were also identified, including hircinol, diospyrosin, moscatilin, gigantol, and various bibenzyl derivatives.
  • Six compounds (3, 4, 13, 16, 17, 20) were reported from the Dendrobium genus for the first time.

Conclusions:

  • The phytochemical analysis of Dendrobium moniliforme yielded a novel dihydrophenanthrene and numerous known compounds.
  • This study expands the knowledge of the chemical diversity within the Dendrobium genus.
  • The identified compounds may hold potential for further pharmacological research.
