Summary

The mitochondrial aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2) gene variant ALDH2*2 significantly increases cerebral infarction risk in Chinese women. This genetic risk factor was not significant in Chinese men, possibly due to confounding lifestyle factors.
