Abstract:
Despite an ethical and legal obligation, the information given to patients in the event of a care-related injury is still often poor. It is expected by patients but the situation is difficult for health professionals. In order to be beneficial for all parties, it requires professionals to have a certain amount of expertise and people skills to enable them to empathise and communicate. It should be included in initial and continuing training and in institutions' quality of care policies.
