Abstract:
Although the effective control of acute otitis media has reduced the number of cases of acute coalescent mastoiditis, the incidence of chronic mastoiditis caused by cholesteatoma has not been decreased with antibiotic usage. Surgery is required for management. This article outlines preoperative management of patients with cholesteatoma and the approach for selecting the appropriate operative procedure.
