Summary

This case study presents a rare instance of primary sinonasal clear cell carcinoma, a type of malignant epithelial tumor. The patient underwent successful endoscopic tumor excision with no recurrence observed at 10 months post-surgery.

Background:

  • Primary sinonasal clear cell carcinoma is a rare malignant epithelial tumor.
  • It is classified under salivary gland-type carcinomas by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Purpose of the Study:

  • To report a rare case of primary sinonasal clear cell carcinoma.
  • To highlight diagnostic challenges and differential diagnoses.

Main Methods:

  • A case of a 69-year-old gentleman with epistaxis was investigated.
  • Nasal endoscopy revealed a tumor in the right ethmoid cells.
  • Endoscopic excision and histopathological examination confirmed clear cell carcinoma.
  • Clinical, immunohistochemical, and radiological examinations excluded other primary or secondary sites.

Main Results:

  • Histopathology confirmed primary sinonasal clear cell carcinoma.
  • The patient remained well with no tumor recurrence 10 months post-operation.

Conclusions:

  • Primary sinonasal clear cell carcinoma is a rare entity.
  • Meticulous microscopic examination and special immunostains are crucial for differential diagnosis.
