1Dr. Neal-Boylan's programof scholarship has always focused on nurse workforce issues. She recently published two books related to how nurses work. One (The Nurse's Reality Gap: Overcoming Barriers Between Academic Achievement and Clinical Success; Neal-Boylan, 2013) focused on the experience of new graduates from baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral programs. The second book, The Nurse's Reality Shift: Using Our History to Transform Our Future (Neal-Boylan, 2014), focuses on the problems nursing continues to face throughout our history and has failed to correct. Leslie Neal-Boylan, PPhD, APRN, FAAN is Dean and Professor, University of Wisconsin- Oshkosh College of Nursing.
This research examines nurse workforce challenges and the gap between academic preparation and clinical practice for new nurses. It highlights persistent historical issues in nursing that require correction for future advancement.
