Cervical subluxation associated with posterior cervical hemivertebra

A rare posterior cervical hemivertebra caused instability in a child. Surgical correction using an anterior approach with corpectomy and plating achieved effective cervical stabilization.

Background:

- A 7-year-old female presented with a posterior C4 hemivertebra and C5-C7 left hemiblock, causing cervical instability.
- The patient underwent a C4 corpectomy with anterior fixation, intersomatic grafting, and plating.
Findings:
- The surgical intervention resulted in adequate cervical stabilization.
- Postoperative complications included self-limiting left C6 brachialgia and ipsilateral Horner syndrome.
Implications:
- This case highlights the rarity of posterior cervical hemivertebrae causing instability.
- Anterior corpectomy and plating provide a viable surgical solution for this condition.
