There is an increasing demand for formal evaluation of global surgery projects and their impact.
Participants in global surgery projects often lack formal assessment of their personal contributions.

Purpose of the Study:

To address the neglected opportunity of assessing personal contributions in global surgery.
To propose a framework for fostering professional development through intentional reflection and mentorship within global surgery experiences.

Main Methods:

The study proposes a framework for intentional reflection and mentorship.
This framework is designed to be integrated throughout the global surgery experience, from selection to post-experience debriefing.

Main Results:

While direct measurement of participant contribution is difficult, the experience itself is a valuable tool for professional growth.
Implementing a structured reflection and mentorship process can enhance the learning and impact of global surgery participants.

Conclusions:

Global surgery experiences offer significant potential for professional development.
A proposed framework of intentional reflection and mentorship can optimize this development for participants in global surgery initiatives.
