    Summary

Short-term acute hyperuricemia in rats improved red blood cell hemorheology and reduced lipid oxidation. Elevated uric acid levels positively impacted red blood cell function and malondialdehyde levels.

    Area of Science:

    • Biomedical Science
    • Hematology
    • Physiology

    Background:

    • Hyperuricemia is a known risk factor for various diseases.
    • Understanding the effects of acute hyperuricemia on red blood cells is crucial for clinical applications.
    • Existing knowledge on acute hyperuricemia's impact on hemorheology is limited.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the hemorheological effects of acute hyperuricemia on red blood cells.
    • To assess the impact of elevated uric acid on red blood cell lipid oxidative levels.
    • To provide a reference for the clinical management of acute hyperuricemia.

    Main Methods:

    • Acute hyperuricemia was induced in rats using hypoxanthine and oxonate.
    • Blood samples were collected at 0, 1, 2, 3, and 6 hours post-induction.

  • Serum uric acid, hemorheological parameters (deformation index, relax index), hemolysis rate, and malondialdehyde levels were measured.
  • Main Results:

    • Significantly elevated serum uric acid levels were observed at 1, 2, and 3 hours.
    • The integrated deformation index and relax index of red blood cells increased.
    • Hemolysis rate significantly decreased, and plasma malondialdehyde levels were reduced at 2 hours.

    Conclusions:

    • Short-term elevation of uric acid can enhance hemorheological parameters of red blood cells.
    • Acute hyperuricemia may improve the lipid oxidative status of red blood cells.
    • These findings offer insights into the hemorheological consequences of acute hyperuricemia.
