Lampbrush Chromosomes

In 1882, Flemming observed lampbrush chromosomes (LBC) in salamander eggs. Later in 1892, Rückert observed LBCs in shark egg cells and coined the term "lampbrush chromosomes" because they looked like brushes used to clean kerosene lamps.
LBCs are made up of two pairs of conjugating homologous chromatids. Each chromatid consists of alternatively positioned regions of condensed-inactive chromatin and loosely placed-active side loops, which can be contracted and extended. The loops...

Lipoblastoma, a rare pediatric tumor, can occur in the neck causing stridor. This report details a 9-year-old girl

Background:

Lipoblastoma is a rare, benign pediatric tumor, typically affecting infants and young children.
It predominantly occurs in the extremities and trunk, with head and neck involvement being exceptionally uncommon.

Observation:

This case report describes a 9-year-old girl with a gradually worsening neck mass presenting with stridor.
Imaging revealed a significant retrotracheal mass extending from the thyroid level to below the tracheal carina.

Findings:

Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of lipoblastoma.
Surgical resection was successfully performed, with the patient experiencing no postoperative complications.

Implications:

This case expands the understanding of rare head and neck lipoblastomas, particularly in older children.
