[Study of directional preponderance in central disorders of the vestibular system]

The aim of this work was the evaluation of the caloric responses in central disturbances of equilibrium. The symptoms studied were: incidence of directional preponderance with etiology and symmetry of responses versus canal paresis. 232 patients with central disturbances of vestibular system were examined by use of Fitzgerald-Hallpike test. The magnitude of the caloric response was stated as mean value of angular velocity of nystagmus slow phase. Both symmetric directional preponderance and coexistent with canal paresis can be found in disturbances of the central nervous system, not depending on etiology.
