We introduce novel rotating anti-de Sitter (AdS) black holes with finite area horizons. Their entropy surpasses theoretical maximums, prompting a reevaluation of the reverse isoperimetric inequality in black hole thermodynamics.
Area of Science:
- Theoretical Physics
- General Relativity
- Quantum Gravity
Background:
- Rotating black holes are key solutions in general relativity.
- Anti-de Sitter (AdS) spaces are important in theoretical physics, particularly in the AdS/CFT correspondence.
- Thermodynamics of black holes provides insights into quantum gravity.
Purpose of the Study:
- To construct a new class of rotating anti-de Sitter (AdS) black hole solutions.
- To investigate the thermodynamic properties of these black holes, focusing on their entropy.
- To examine the implications of the findings for the conjectured reverse isoperimetric inequality.
Main Methods:
- Construction of new black hole solutions in various dimensions.
- Analysis of thermodynamic quantities, including entropy and volume.
- Comparison of calculated entropy with the conjectured maximum from the reverse isoperimetric inequality.
Main Results:
- A new class of rotating AdS black hole solutions with noncompact event horizons of finite area was successfully constructed.
- The entropy of these black hole solutions was found to exceed the maximum predicted by the reverse isoperimetric inequality.
- This finding suggests that the conditions for the validity of the reverse isoperimetric inequality may need to be more stringent.
Conclusions:
- The study presents novel rotating AdS black hole solutions with unique thermodynamic properties.
- The results challenge the existing reverse isoperimetric inequality, indicating potential limitations or necessary refinements.
- Further theoretical work is needed to establish more precise conditions for the validity of the reverse isoperimetric inequality in black hole thermodynamics.

Schwarzschild Radius and Event Horizon
The minimum speed required to launch a projectile from the surface of an object to which it is gravitationally bound so that it eventually escapes the object’s gravitational field is called the escape velocity. The escape velocity is independent of the mass of the object. Merging the idea of escape...

Entropy
When an ideal gas expands isothermally, the disorder in the gas increases. From the molecular perspective, the gas molecules have more volume to move around in.
Consider an infinitesimal step in the expansion, which...
Entropy and the Second Law of Thermodynamics
The relation between entropy and disorder can be illustrated with the example of the phase change of ice to water. In ice, the molecules are located at specific sites giving a solid state, whereas, in a liquid form, these molecules are much freer to move. The molecular arrangement has therefore become more randomized. Although the change in average...
