Background:

Auriculotherapy (AT) is a non-invasive therapy involving stimulation of ear acupuncture points.
The precise mechanisms by which AT influences pain perception remain under investigation.
Previous research has explored AT's effects on various pain conditions.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the efficacy of auriculotherapy (AT) in modulating pain threshold.
To determine if AT can influence pain tolerability in healthy individuals.
To compare the effects of AT with a sham treatment on pain perception.

Main Methods:

Healthy volunteers were divided into two groups: AT and sham treatment.
AT involved placing Vaccaria seeds on the ear's "fingers point".
A standardized autoalgometric test measured pain thresholds before, 1 hour after, and 24 hours after treatment.

A significant increase in the maximal pain threshold was observed 24 hours after AT compared to the sham group.
