  • Searched YouTube for 'laparoscopic cholecystectomy' and analyzed the top 100 videos.
  • Excluded 27 videos, resulting in a final study group of 73 videos.
  • Assessed video quality using a scoring system based on LC guidelines and analyzed demographics by quality and source.

Main Results:

  • 15.1% of videos were 'good', 54.8% 'moderate', and 30.1% 'poor'.
  • Videos from tertiary centers had significantly higher educational scores than those from secondary centers.
  • No correlation was found between video score and viewer engagement metrics (views, likes, comments).

Conclusions:

  • Educational quality of laparoscopic cholecystectomy videos on YouTube is highly variable.
  • Tertiary centers produce videos with superior educational value.
  • Current viewer engagement does not reflect video educational quality, necessitating improved content curation and creation.
