Background:

  • Sarcoidosis commonly causes fatigue, exercise intolerance, and muscle weakness, diminishing patients' quality of life (QOL).

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the impact of a 13-week physical training program on fatigue, physical functions, and QOL in sarcoidosis patients.
  • To assess the feasibility and preliminary outcomes of exercise interventions in this population.

Main Methods:

  • Eighteen sarcoidosis patients underwent a 13-week structured physical training program.
  • Assessments included the Fatigue Assessment Scale (FAS), WHOQOL-BREF, MRC dyspnea scale, 6-minute walk test (6MWT), and muscle strength tests.
  • Data were collected at baseline and post-intervention.

Main Results:

  • Significant reductions in fatigue (FAS scores) and improvements in psychological health (WHOQOL-BREF) were observed.
  • Patients demonstrated enhanced physical function, including increased 6MWD distance and quadriceps strength.
  • Improvements were also noted in MRC dyspnea scores and submaximal bicycle test heart rate response.

Conclusions:

  • A 13-week physical training program effectively reduced fatigue and improved psychological health and physical function in sarcoidosis patients.
  • These findings suggest that exercise is a beneficial intervention for managing sarcoidosis symptoms and improving QOL.
  • Further research is recommended to confirm these benefits in larger trials.
