Background:

Effective nursing management relies on informed decision-making.

Purpose of the Study:

To systematically review and identify informatics competencies essential for nurses in the management decision-making process.
To categorize identified competencies based on established frameworks like TIGER (Technology Informatics Guiding Education Reform).
To pinpoint specific areas of informatics competence that require development within nursing management.

Main Methods:

A scoping review methodology was employed to systematically search scientific literature.
Databases were searched for articles published in English, Portuguese, or Spanish until July 2013.
Inclusion criteria focused on studies detailing informatics competencies for nursing management, resulting in seven selected articles.

Main Results:

Seven studies published between 1994 and 2011 were included, predominantly in English from the USA.
Informatics competencies were categorized using the Technology Informatics Guiding Education Reform (TIGER) framework.
A significant gap was identified in nurses' informatics competence for management decision-making, especially concerning information management.

Conclusions:

Nurses require specific informatics competencies to effectively manage and make decisions.
Information management competence is a critical area needing improvement in nursing management.
Further research and educational initiatives are needed to address these identified competence gaps.
