Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Idiopathic lymphocytic orchitis (LO) is a rare condition.
  • It often presents with non-specific symptoms like testicular pain and atrophy.

Observation:

  • A case study of a male patient with idiopathic LO.
  • Initial investigations and antibiotic treatment (ciprofloxacin) provided only temporary pain relief.
  • Scrotal exploration and biopsy were performed.

Findings:

  • Histological examination revealed severe LO with reduced spermatogenesis.
  • Oral steroid treatment offered temporary symptom management.
  • Unilateral orchidectomy resulted in complete postoperative pain resolution.

Implications:

  • This case highlights idiopathic LO as a potential, though uncommon, cause of testicular atrophy and chronic pain.
  • Orchidectomy can be an effective treatment for refractory cases.
  • Further research into the pathogenesis and management of idiopathic LO is warranted.
