Summary

Transient cortical blindness, a rare complication of iodinated contrast agents, can occur after coronary angiography (CAG). This temporary vision loss resolved completely within two days in a 71-year-old male patient.

Background:

  • Coronary angiography (CAG) is a common diagnostic procedure.
  • Iodinated contrast agents are frequently used in CAG.
  • Adverse reactions to contrast agents, though rare, can be serious.

Observation:

  • A 71-year-old male patient developed sudden bilateral cortical blindness immediately following CAG.
  • Neurologic assessment confirmed cortical blindness.
  • Cerebral CT-scan revealed occipital hyperdensity attributed to contrast agent accumulation and edema.

Findings:

  • The patient experienced a rare, transient neurological complication of iodinated contrast media.
  • The observed symptoms were consistent with contrast-induced encephalopathy.
