Summary

Assessing readiness to quit smoking after stroke using a visual analog scale (VAS) can predict future smoking behavior. Lower readiness scores indicate a higher likelihood of continued smoking post-stroke.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the relationship between patients' readiness to quit smoking and their subsequent smoking behavior after an ischemic stroke.

  • Eighty-six active smokers hospitalized for their first ischemic stroke were enrolled.
  • Readiness to quit was assessed using a direct question and a 10-cm visual analog scale (VAS).
