This review highlights trends in medical Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) based decision support systems (DSSs) from 2012-2014. While evolving, patient-centered care DSSs are not yet widely available.

- To survey the latest trends (2012-2014) in the development, use, and evaluation of ICT-based DSSs in medicine.
- To specifically highlight advancements in patient-centered and personalized care within these systems.

- A systematic literature review of papers published in scientific journals.
- Searches were conducted on PubMed and Web of Science, including studies on ICT-based tools in clinical practice and computerized physician order entry systems (CPOEs).
Main Results:
- 73 papers on DSSs and 72 on CPOEs were identified.
- Decision support often involves recommendations (28/53) or efficient information presentation (25/53).
- Patient participation (9/53) and integration with hospital systems remain limited, with cancer being the most represented medical area (12%).
Conclusions:
- Medical DSSs show advancements in patient communication, economic/organizational impact consideration, and knowledge representation.
- Despite progress, widespread availability of patient-centered care DSSs is still lacking.
