Abstract:
Ions at dielectric interfaces are found in a wide range of applications including biology, nanofluidics, and fuel cells. Often, the excluded volume of the ions has first-order effects on measured properties. Here, density functional theory of fluids is used to develop a statistical mechanical theory of how ions (charged hard spheres of different sizes) arrange around a dielectric interface.
