Background:

Congenital cataracts can be associated with developmental anomalies of the vitreous body.
Accurate assessment of these combined changes is crucial for diagnosis and management.

Observation:

Digital spatial ultrasound imaging was used to examine 26 patients (52 eyes) with congenital lens and vitreous abnormalities.
Multiplanar ultrasound and 3D virtual modeling provided detailed spatial characteristics of the combined congenital involvement.

Findings:

Specific ultrasonographic signs of vitreous body underdevelopment in conjunction with congenital cataracts were identified.
The observed morphological changes in the lens and vitreous were found to be interrelated.

Implications:

Three-dimensional digital ultrasound virtual modeling is a valuable tool for studying combined congenital lens and vitreous abnormalities.
This advanced imaging technique facilitates the understanding of normal vitreous morphology in the context of congenital defects.
