Insights
This study details four infant cases of left-sided congenital diaphragmatic hernia, highlighting successful surgical outcomes and rapid respiratory function recovery post-operation.
Area of Science:
- Pediatric Surgery
- Neonatal Medicine
- Thoracic Surgery
Background:
- Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is a serious birth defect impacting infant respiratory function.
- Left-sided CDH presents significant challenges in the neonatal period, requiring prompt diagnosis and intervention.
Observation:
- The study focuses on four neonates diagnosed with left-sided congenital diaphragmatic hernia.
- Clinical presentation, diagnostic methods, and surgical management strategies were documented for each case.
Findings:
- Surgical repair of left-sided congenital diaphragmatic hernia was performed in all four patients.
- Post-operative respiratory function demonstrated a prompt and normal recovery following surgical intervention.
Implications:
- Early surgical correction is crucial for improving outcomes in infants with congenital diaphragmatic hernia.
- Effective management of CDH leads to significant recovery of respiratory function, enhancing long-term survival and quality of life.
Abstract:
The Authors report their experience on four patients affected with left-sided congenital diaphragmatic hernia presented in the post-natal period. They describe the symptoms, diagnosis and surgical approach and discuss the prompt and normal response of the respiratory function to the operation.
