Background:

  • Congenital skin conditions require accurate diagnosis and management.
  • Nevus sebaceous is a common congenital skin tumor, typically presenting on the face or scalp.

Observation:

  • A 13-year-old boy presented with a congenital, raised, yellowish, cerebriform plaque on his right ear with associated alopecia.
  • The lesion was asymptomatic but caused aesthetic and social distress.
  • Histopathology revealed epidermal changes and underdeveloped hair follicles, consistent with nevus sebaceous.

Findings:

  • The histopathologic findings confirmed a diagnosis of nevus sebaceous.
  • No other systemic abnormalities were detected, ruling out associated syndromes.
  • Complete surgical excision resulted in excellent aesthetic outcomes.

Implications:

  • Early diagnosis and surgical intervention can significantly improve patient quality of life for congenital skin lesions.
  • This case highlights the importance of considering nevus sebaceous in the differential diagnosis of congenital ear malformations.
  • Complete excision is a viable treatment option for symptomatic or aesthetically concerning nevus sebaceous, yielding favorable cosmetic results.
