Summary

Researchers developed molecular genetic maps for two grapevine cultivars to identify genes controlling grape weight and soluble solids. This study identified six quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for grape weight and seven QTLs for soluble solids, aiding future breeding efforts.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To construct molecular genetic maps for two grapevine parent cultivars ('87-1' and '9-22').
  • To identify quantitative trait loci (QTLs) associated with grape weight and soluble solid content in a grapevine mapping population.

Main Methods:

  • A mapping population of 149 grapevine plants was created from a cross between '87-1' and '9-22'.
  • Sequence-related amplified polymorphism (SRAP) and simple-sequence repeat (SSR) markers were used to construct molecular linkage maps.
  • Interval mapping was employed for quantitative trait locus (QTL) analysis of grape weight and soluble solid content.

Conclusions:

  • Key QTLs influencing grape weight and soluble solids were identified, providing valuable genetic resources for grapevine breeding programs aimed at enhancing fruit quality and yield.
