Correctional health nurses face unique occupational stressors.
Previous research has not extensively explored vicarious traumatization in this population.
The high-risk environment poses significant exposure to traumatic events.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the prevalence and impact of vicarious traumatization among correctional health nurses.
To explore the concept of vicarious traumatization within the correctional healthcare setting.

Main Methods:

A survey was distributed to 2,000 correctional health nurses.
The Professional Quality of Life Scale (ProQOL) was utilized to measure vicarious trauma.
A demographic survey accompanied the ProQOL for contextual data.

Main Results:

The study achieved a 10.1% response rate.
Findings indicate that vicarious traumatization is a reality for correctional health nurses.
The Professional Quality of Life Scale confirmed the presence of vicarious trauma.
