This study identified distinct resilience profiles, linking psychological well-being and coping strategies to successful adaptation. Understanding these profiles can guide non-pharmacological interventions for enhancing resilience.
Area of Science:
- Psychology
- Health Sciences
Background:
- Resilience, the ability to thrive despite adversity, is gaining research attention.
- A significant link exists between resilience, psychological well-being, and coping mechanisms.
Purpose of the Study:
- To identify distinct resilience profiles within a diverse adult sample.
- To examine the relationship between these profiles, psychological well-being, and coping strategies.
Main Methods:
- Utilized Self-Organizing Maps (SOM) clustering on data from 890 participants (aged 18-95).
- Applied multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) to assess group differences.
Main Results:
- Three distinct resilience clusters were identified: two high-resilience and one low-resilience group.
- Significant group effects were found for resilience, psychological well-being, and coping strategy variables.
Conclusions:
- Resilient profiles can be established using psychological well-being and coping strategy data.
- These findings support the development of non-pharmacological therapies aimed at bolstering resilience and coping skills.
