    Summary

Severe elongation of maxillary posterior teeth due to missing mandibular teeth can complicate restorations. Posterior maxillary osteotomy offers a viable alternative to extraction for correcting elongation and restoring function.

    Area of Science:

    • Dentistry
    • Oral Surgery
    • Orthodontics

    Background:

    • Missing mandibular posterior teeth can lead to opposing maxillary tooth elongation.
    • This elongation complicates prosthetic restoration and requires intervention.
    • Traditional solutions like extraction may be necessary for severe cases.

    Observation:

    • The study observed 15 cases of severely elongated maxillary posterior teeth.
    • Posterior maxillary osteotomy was used to intrude the elongated segments.
    • The procedure aimed to restore functional occlusion and maintain tooth vitality.

    Findings:

    • Posterior maxillary osteotomy effectively intruded elongated maxillary posterior teeth.
    • The procedure achieved favorable results in all observed cases.
    • Tooth vitality was maintained throughout the treatment.

    Implications:

    • Posterior maxillary osteotomy is a successful alternative to extraction for severe tooth elongation.
    • This surgical approach offers a good prognosis for prosthetic restoration.
    • It provides a method to regain interarch space while preserving natural teeth.
