Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate long-term visual acuity after macular hole surgery.
  • To correlate spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) findings with visual outcomes.

  • Prospective study of 36 patients undergoing macular hole surgery.
  • Assessed best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) from 4-6 months to final follow-up.
  • Analyzed SD-OCT for retinal thickness and ellipsoid layer morphology.

  • BCVA improved significantly over a mean 36-month follow-up (median 20/63 to 20/47).
  • A median gain of 6.5 letters was observed.
