Summary
Diagnosing diffuse-type gastric cancer (linitis plastica) is challenging due to submucosal infiltration. A novel submucosal tunneling technique successfully diagnosed a difficult case, improving diagnostic yield for submucosal gastric lesions.
Area of Science:
- Gastroenterology
- Surgical Oncology
- Diagnostic Endoscopy
Background:
- Diffuse-type gastric cancer, or linitis plastica (LP), presents diagnostic challenges due to submucosal infiltration.
- Conventional endoscopic biopsies may yield false-negative results as superficial mucosa often appears normal.
- Distinguishing benign from malignant lesions macroscopically is difficult, and current sampling methods have limitations.
