Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients do not develop ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) more often, but VAP significantly worsens outcomes, increasing mortality and ICU stay. Early VAP in COPD patients shows higher Pseudomonas aeruginosa rates.

- Targeted VAP management strategies are essential for improving prognosis in ICU patients with COPD.
