Abstract:
Nutritional and metabolic support appears to be indicated for critically ill patients requiring mechanical ventilation. Feeding formulas should be adjusted according to the nutrient requirements and efficiency of gas exchange in the individual patient. Management of the complex weaning problem patient with limited respiratory reserve requires many principles common to muscle exercise training.
