Background:

Perioperative nursing is critical for patient outcomes.
Accurate assessment of nursing intensity is essential for resource allocation.
Existing tools may not fully capture the dynamic nature of perioperative care needs.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the construct validity of a novel instrument designed to measure nursing intensity.
To determine if the instrument accurately reflects nursing care requirements in perioperative settings.

Main Methods:

A survey instrument comprising 24 core elements of perioperative nursing was utilized.
Data were collected from 652 patient assessments across 308 patients.
Principal component analysis was employed to analyze the data.

Main Results:

A four-component model emerged from the principal component analysis.
This model suggests distinct factors contributing to nursing intensity in the perioperative period.

Conclusions:

Patient nursing care needs fluctuate significantly throughout the perioperative journey.
The developed instrument's content requires adaptation to differentiate between intraoperative and postoperative phases.
Further validation is necessary to create a reliable tool for optimizing nursing staff allocation in operating departments.
