Lacunar infarction due to carotid stenosis
1From the Department of Neurology, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, U.S.A.
Abstract:
Previous reports have distinguished lacunar infarctions from larger strokes both on clinical grounds and on the basis of proposed pathophysiology. This report describes a patient with critical carotid stenosis resulting in a clinical syndrome and radiological findings typical of the lacunar syndrome of ataxic hemiparesis. This supports recent suggestions that patients with lacunar strokes should undergo the same evaluation as patients with larger strokes.
