  • Review of global and domestic anti-ST legislation and programs.
  • Development of a new theoretical framework for addressing sex trafficking.
  • Main Results:

    • Existing anti-ST efforts are heavily skewed towards criminalization, with insufficient resources allocated to prevention and victim-centered services.
    • There is a critical need for therapeutic services for individuals involved in pornography addiction and the purchase of sexual services.
    • Current policies often overlook the underlying social inequities that contribute to sex trafficking.

    Conclusions:

    • A paradigm shift is required in social work policy and practice to effectively combat sex trafficking.
    • Emphasis must move towards prevention programming, addressing social determinants, and providing comprehensive victim support services.
    • Integrated approaches are necessary, including therapeutic interventions for all parties involved in the sex trade.
