Summary

This study on chronic lateral epicondylitis shows surgical treatment significantly improves patient outcomes. Patients experienced reduced pain and enhanced elbow function after the procedure.

Background:

  • Chronic lateral epicondylitis, often called tennis elbow, is a debilitating condition.
  • Current treatments may not provide sufficient relief for all patients.
  • Surgical intervention is considered for refractory cases.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy of a surgical technique for chronic lateral epicondylitis.
  • To assess patient satisfaction and functional outcomes post-surgery.

Main Methods:

  • Surgical technique involved radial epicondyle drilling and thermal denervation.
  • Extensor carpi radialis brevis (ECRB) and longus (ECRL) tendons were addressed.
  • 24 patients with chronic lateral epicondylitis were included in the study.

Main Results:

  • 83.3% of operated patients were included in the follow-up.
  • Significant improvement in the Nirschl tennis elbow score from 35 to 75 points.
  • Postoperative pain levels decreased from 6.8 to 1.4 on average.
