    Summary

    Adding local antibiotics during appendectomy significantly reduces wound sepsis and hospital stays for complicated appendicitis. This study shows local metronidazole and cephazolin are safe and effective adjuncts to systemic antibiotics.

    • Local antibiotic instillation significantly reduces postoperative sepsis rates in complicated appendicitis.
    • This approach also leads to a significant reduction in the duration of hospital stay.
