  • Analysis of graft survival, patient survival, rejection rates, and immunologic parameters.
  • Comparison between pre-reTR (n=18) and reTR (n=83) groups.

Main Results:

  • The reTR group showed higher panel-reactive antibody (PRA) levels compared to the pre-reTR group (P < .001).
  • First-year rejection rates were 11.1% for pre-reTR vs. 27.7% for reTR (P = .227).
  • Five-year patient survival was 100% for pre-reTR vs. 85.9% for reTR; five-year allograft survival was 89% for pre-reTR vs. 65% for reTR.

Conclusions:

  • Pre-emptive renal retransplantation is a viable option for patients with kidney graft failure.
  • This strategy may mitigate the morbidity associated with dialysis reinitiation.
  • Assessing pre-emptive retransplantation can improve patient management post-graft failure.
