Area of Science:

  • Materials Science
  • Analytical Chemistry
  • Nanotechnology

Background:

  • Developing selective sensors is crucial for detecting specific molecules in complex mixtures.
  • Mesoporous thin films offer tunable pore structures for molecular interactions.
  • Metal nanoparticles enhance sensitivity in sensing applications, particularly with Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS).

Purpose of the Study:

  • To construct a hybrid material of metal nanoparticles embedded in functionalized mesoporous thin films.
  • To demonstrate its application as a selective SERS-based sensor.
  • To achieve selective detection of target molecules in mixtures without sample pretreatment.

Main Methods:

  • Fabrication of hybrid material with metal nanoparticles in functionalized mesoporous thin films.
  • Utilizing amino-functionalized films for selective molecular entrapment.
  • Employing SERS to detect methylene blue (MB) in the presence of acid blue (AB).
  • Tuning sensor selectivity via pH variation.

Main Results:

  • Successful construction of a hybrid material for SERS sensing.
  • Demonstrated selective detection of methylene blue (MB) in mixtures with acid blue (AB).
  • Achieved selective MB detection through specific affinity-based entrapment of AB in the mesoporous matrix.
  • Showcased pH-responsive selectivity of the sensor.

Conclusions:

  • The developed hybrid mesoporous thin film sensors offer high selectivity for target molecules.
  • The sensor's selectivity can be tuned by adjusting solution pH, enabling responsive sensing.
  • This approach allows for specific molecular detection in complex matrices without prior sample preparation.
