    Background:

    • Dental practice-based research networks (PBRNs) require robust methods for generating clinically relevant research ideas.

    • To demonstrate the application of the Technology of Participation (ToP) Consensus Method Workshop for research idea generation within the National Dental PBRN.
    • To assess the effectiveness of the ToP method in engaging dental practitioners in identifying research priorities.

    Main Methods:

    • Five consensus workshops were conducted over 12 months at various settings, including academic institutions and professional meetings.
    • Participants included general dentists, dental hygienists, and researchers.
    • The ToP Consensus Method Workshop facilitated individual, small group, and large group discussions.

    • A total of 197 participants across five workshops generated 205 research ideas.
    • Generated ideas were categorized, highlighting novel and common areas of interest.
